Mustang horse head, USA
Mustang horses are the 'wild' horses of North America. Originally imported by Spanish Conquistadores in the sixteenth century they came into contact with Native American Indian tribes who learned how to handle and ride them. Many of the horses subsequently ran wild and began to form feral herds. By the late nineteenth century there were huge numbers of 'wild' horses grazing the plains of North America. Domesticated Mustangs make good riding horses and are often used for endurance rides
