Lundy Pony mare and foal on Lundy Island
The Lundy Pony is a breed first developed on Lundy Island in England. In 1928, the owner of the island, Martin Coles Harman, introduced New Forest pony mares, and a Welsh Mountain B strawberry roan stallion in order to breed a pony with more height than the Dartmoor and Exmoor ponies. The Lundy Ponies are very tough and hardy. They typically are dun, roan, palomino, bay, or liver chestnut in colour, and rarely exceed 13.2 hh in height.
