Close up of Shetland pony mares and foals grazing
Shetland Ponies are hardy and strong, because the breed developed in the harsh conditions of the Shetland Isles, located northeast of mainland Scotland. Small horses have lived on the Shetland Isles since the Bronze Age. Today, Shetlands are used as children's riding ponies, as well as for pleasure driving.
