All Morgan Horses can be traced back to a single sire, a stallion named Figure, who was born in Massachusetts in 1789. He was at one time owned by a man named Justin Morgan. The horse later came to be identified by the name of this particular owner giving rise to the breed's name. The breed's trotting ability made it a favourite for harness racing. Today the Morgan Horse has a horse show circuit just for the breed
